![]() | ![]() Comparison of Clinical Efficacy of Ceftiofur vs Ceftiofur Plus Banamine Lockwood PW, Katz TL, Johnson JC: Comparative clinical efficacy of three non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's) flunixin meglumine, carprofen, and ketoprofen when used as an adjunct to the antibacterial treatment of bovine respiratory disease. Proceedings 15th Veterinary Respiratory Symposium, The Comparative Respiratory Society P/6.3, 1997. Protocol 400-lb mixed breed beef calves with naturally occurring pneumonia 7 days after transport. Calves with pyrexia (>40.0°C), clinical illness index and/or depression score of 2 or 3, and a dyspnea score of 1 or more. Cases ranked by temperature and randomly assigned to one of two groups: Treated with ceftiofur only at 1.1 mg/kg once daily for 3 days (n=17). Treated with ceftiofur plus Banamine at 2.2 mg/kg once daily for 3 days (n=17) Results - Antibiotic Plus Banamine Statistically significant (p=<.05) decrease in temperature at 2, 4, 6, 12, and 24 hours. Statistically significant (p=<.05) decrease in temperature on Day 1 (1.2°F vs 0.5°F). Statistically significant (p=.0033) reduction in lung consolidation (1.7% vs 15.3%). | |
